MYOB unpack tech and teach girls UX design - girledworld SUMMIT 2017

Sarah Hyne - Design Anthropologist + MYOB UX Designer to join the girledworld Summit 2017

We’re thrilled to be joined by a team of MYOB young female UX design guns at the girledworld Big Ideas Leadership Summit on Saturday June 24 to break open tech careers, explore UX and immerse girls in a human-centered design workshop.

Led by Design Anthropologist and MYOB UX team lead Sarah Hyne, the MYOB crew will facilitate an experiential design workshop with secondary school girls at the University of Melbourne’s Wade Institute of Entrepreneurship.

“I'm passionate about designing things that work for real people, and I believe that good design must be meaningful but not always visible,” says Hyne.

“I've worked in the design industry for over ten years and my experience spans human-centered design, prototyping, interaction, service, print and digital design.

But I suppose my interest in design started when I was a kid.

I was obsessed (like, really obsessed!) with LEGO and designed a dispensing machine for my grape-flavoured HubbaBubba! Then I discovered typography and would spend hours crafting my own fonts. I coded my first website in high school when the internet was just HTML tables and 16 colours.”

After finishing school Hyne attended a design college that taught her to value strong ideas over technical skill, and with a growing interest in psychology, later completed a Masters of Design Anthropology.

“I would never have guessed that all these discrete fascinations and interests would wind their way into my career as a design researcher.

“But design research is incredibly fun. I spend my days meeting people from all over, observing how they go about their lives, talking about what matters to them and holding LEGO-making workshops to uncover people's deep desires and beliefs.

Design research is also incredibly meaningful to me. Everything we learn contributes to the design of simpler, more helpful, more beautiful and relevant experiences for people.”

'My guiding force in life is to help good people do good design. Which led me to where I am now at MYOB – probably one of the best places to work in design in Australia. '

"At MYOB we make accounting software – it’s a category ripe with opportunity. Millions of people use MYOB products, and our team of passionate UX researchers and designers strive to make their lives easier by building smarter, more intuitive, more insightful business tools.”

We can’t wait for Sarah Hyne and the MYOB UX team to join us at the Summit to up-skill, immerse and educate girls in UX design!
