Right now you're using the internet.
But do you ever stop to think about who built the platforms that allow you to consume this media?
Men. Mainly. Mostly.
In fact, currently only 12% of tech engineers are women, only 1 in 4 IT graduates are female, and not nearly enough females are upskilling in tech (which as we know is pretty much where the world and the workplace is at so you simply cannot afford to be left behind). We need the females in tech participation ratio to rise, and to better support the skill-building of girls and women in tech.
Thankfully, the awesome Australian-founded global Girl Geek Academy community has started, and is beginning to change the percentage, one girl at a time, by teaching girls to code, learn technology and build more of the internet.
This is critical work that will build the pipeline so more women and girls step into STEM careers down the line, and bring the numbers up.
Hear from @girlgeekacademy guru and Founder Sarah Moran about how she got her start, and why the worlds girls need to step into tech, at the @girledworld Big Ideas Leadership SUMMIT 2017.
